History of Surgeon Noonan
Surgeon Noonan was founded in 1977 by a group of 4th year medical students in UCC. The charity was named in honour of Dr. Tim Noonan, a UCC educated surgeon who dedicated much of his professional career to impactful work in Nigeria and the Congo. He died in November 1975. Since its inception two years later in 1977, the Surgeon Noonan Charity has fundraised to improve medical aid in countries across sub Saharan Africa including Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya. These funds are used for both the development of capital infrastructure, such as a new maternity ward or HIV clinic, and essential medical supplies including antibiotics, analgesics, sterile medical equipment.
